A multiplayer game is that type of video game, computer game or mobile game which can be played with one or more co-gamers in a clan or head to head at a time in the same screen or on separate screens.

History of Multiplayer Games

The first multiplayer games were originated in the 1960s and 1970s. For example- Pong in 1972, early shooter games (Spacewar) in 1962, early racing games (Astro Race) in 1973.
Back then, multiplayer games were known as MUDs (Multi- user dungeons). MUDs were mostly based on texts. Their algorithms were designed in such a way that various unique outputs were generated as a result of the inputs made by the player.
Before 1970s, multiplayer games were confined to only one screen. One could play and score more than the initial players, so that his name could be placed at the top of the list. It was in 1973, with the creation of Empire (a strategic turn based game designed for eight players), that the trend of playing in different screens started.
